WANT TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE? KEEP NATURE INTACT
Let’s protect nature like our lives depend on it. Because they do.
We have long known that people need nature for a stable climate. And now is the time to prioritize a crucial climate solution: restoring the world’s forests.
In a new video, Conservation International Vice President of Climate Change Shyla Raghav urges the world to “keep nature intact to build resilience to the climate impacts to come.” Forests cover 30 percent of Earth's land surface — yet tropical deforestation and unsustainable land use account for one-fourth of global carbon emissions each year.
A third or more of the solution to our climate problem lies in protecting and restoring forests — helping trees keep planet-warming carbon out of the atmosphere and locked away in their roots, branches and leaves.
Forests are fundamental to humanity’s well-being. They clean the air we breathe and the water we drink. They protect communities, reduce flooding and house Earth’s rich biodiversity. We must treat trees as a true ally.
We already have an essential tool for combating climate breakdown: nature. It’s time to protect nature like our lives depend on it — because they do.
