Having an education is vital for an individual’s personal development. Education opens up job prospects and can help those in poverty to earn a living wage and help develop their community. For this reason, Muslim Aid has created numerous programmes that teach people specific skills that they can use to find work.

Fatima was one of the beneficiaries of this programme. With three children to care for, Fatima received very little help from her former husband. Though he would send money, it wasn't enough to support the family. Her situation was desperate. But she never gave up hope.

Muslim Aid was actively working in her area. We initiated a tailoring course in the local community with the aim of helping the local people make a living as tailors. Attending a tailoring course provided by Muslim Aid helped Fatima tremendously. She acquired the skills to produce and sell her own clothing. The course was 6 weeks long which she successfully completed. She was also able to invest in a sewing machine. Looking back, Fatima feels proud of what she accomplished.

'Training has changed my life,' she said. 'I was really happy to be given the opportunity. I wanted to take responsibility of my own family. I feel that every woman should do the same if she wants to support her family.'

Fatima now receives regular clothing orders and earns a stable income to provide for her three children, all of who are doing well.
